The U.S. Open, the final Grand Slam tennis tournament of 2017, opened on Monday in New York with several storylines on the men’s and women’s sides.

On the men’s side, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal finally could meet at the U.S. Open.

Nadal leads in the rivalry, nicknamed “Fedal”, 23-14, but Federer has won their last four meetings.

Federer beat Nadal in the Australian Open and Wimbledon this season while Nadal won the French Open.

If it happens here, they’ll meet in the semifinals because Nadal, the No. 1 seed, and Federer, the No. 3 seed, were drawn into the same side of the tournament bracket.

On the women’s side, eight women enter with a chance at being ranked No. 1 by the end of the tournament — Karolina Pliskova the current No. 1, along with Simona Halep, Garbine Muguruza, Elina Svitolina, Caroline Wozniacki, Johanna Konta, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Venus Williams.
